1940 Glenlivit 70 Year Old

1940 Glenlivet 70 Yr Old

REGION – Speyside

NOSE – The first aroma is of an old cocktail cabinet, with Sherry notes predominating; polished wood, soft leather and a trace of candle wax. Behind this are fruity notes, lightly baked apples, but also fresh orange juice, and just a thread of smoke or ash in the distance.

PALATE – A waxy, teeth-coating mouthfeel; smooth and voluptuous. The taste is sweetish to start, then savoury, with a trace of salt – might this be a rare example of ‘umami’ in whisky, the elusive fifth primary taste?

Glenlivet 1940 is the latest addition to the “Generations” range. Distilled on 3rd February 1940, this unique and exceptionally rare Single Malt Scotch Whisky is bottled at natural cask strength (45.9%), having been patiently matured for 70 years in a First Fill Sherry Butt.

A stupendous whisky! Although it resonates with aged character – and, indeed, characteristics from another era – it retains vitality, both on the nose and on the palate.

Giving Back

Gold Medal Marketing believes in giving back. With this in mind, from time to time we will have a single barrel bottling of Single Malt Whisky where a portion of the proceeds are donated to charity. Our current bottling is with Springbank Distillery, a 12 Year Old Single Cask, Cask Strength, Single malt, matured in Refill Sherry Casks. Click here to learn more.
